Rules

Infirmary
Echoing and austere, blank stone walls are vaulted high to overshadow the row of white-curtained cots along the back wall. Ancient metal gleams steel-bright in the form of sinks and examination table, lit relentlessly by bright glows and reflecting the colours of bottles and jars shelved above. Padlocked cabinets hide the more dangerous drugs and implements, whilst healer paraphenalia litters one solid oak table with sweetly-fragranced herbs and tattered scrolls. A small hearth contains a fire usually banked low, several cauldrons set ready nearby to for heating water. A dark staircase twists up from one corner to the dragonhealer's lair; one low door leads into the lower caverns, another to weyrhealers' quarters. Barn-sized doors open inwards with creak of hinges from the ground weyr.
Comfortable on top of a cupboard are Sploink, Caerulus, Risidan, D'argo, Hermes, Enjolras, Fluker, and Klee.
You see examination area and Candidate Physicals Board here.
You notice Siannen, R'sli, and Anhelica asleep here.
Elehu and Mechelle are here.

Elehu has been rummaging in one of the cabinets, and walks over to Mechelle, a small glass vial held in her hand. "Oh yes, or even more than that," she replies quickly. "It's imperative that we keep the riders in the best possible condition, so every time they show up for an injury, we give a physical. Granted, it's not always a /full/ physical... unless a rider becomes pregnant of course. Speaking of which... here, drink this." She hands the vial over to Mechelle with a grin. "You'll want to come in for that once a month. Just ask for the 'green stuff'. We'll know what you mean." She winks at the candidate before turning to wave to Reiko. "Including this silly girl," she adds, tone lightly teasing.

Mechelle nods slightly, listening closely. "I'd imagine that riders would have to be /very/ careful. You wouldn't want to have injured dragonriders up there." she points towards the ceiling. Eyebrow raises slightly as she eyes the 'green stuff'. "What /is/ it?" Of course, she figures that out just as she says it. Cheeks redden even more and she shrugs it off, "I won't need it..." Goody two-shoes here? Nah, just being truthful.

Reiko slips into the infirmary, apparently out of habit, stopping short as she walks into yet /another/ Candidate physical. Eyeroll. Before she can escape, she's being waved at, and she turns to look at Elehu with a finely arched eyebrow. Reiko hasn't been called a 'silly girl' in an extremely long time. Since well before she arrived at the Weyr. But she smirks lightly and gives queasyCandie a nod. "Greenstuff," she repeats dutifully. One of the few things she learned during her tenure as infirmary assistant. "And don't be too sure." That she won't need it.

Elehu laughs softly and shrugs. "It's not necessarily /required/, but... I think it's worth it. Just be glad you only need it once a month. Basically it's the Weyr's way of making sure they won't have to send you back home before the Hatching because of a 'mistake'. They do happen, you see. A woman with child isn't allowed to stand. And men are often sent home as well if they're found out, simply because it shows a lack of discipline. It's not fair, but that's how it goes." Don't be put off, she's just talking shop.

Mechelle turns her eyes onto one of those 'wierd' candidates she was referring to earlier. "Ah, hello Reiko." Proper greeting from the proper nanny, of course. She shrugs slightly, taking the 'greenstuff' and drinking it down quickly, nearly gagging at the horrible taste. "Ugh..." At least she didn't lose it like she's lost stuff in the last several sevendays, eh? "Well, if you insist, but I don't think there's a problem..." She's got to defend herself there, of course. "I always follow the rules."

Reiko smirks. "The red stuff is worse. Or so I'm told." Emerald gaze slides over to Elehu, sidelong, and she folds her arms across her chest. She doesn't bother to comment on 'always following the rules'. Nobody 'always' does anything.

Elehu smiles softly, one brow arching a bit before she composes her face a bit more, holding out one hand for the vial. "I'm sure you will. But a little insurance goes a long way, no? Speaking of rules, Reiko, how are you holding up as a Candidate?"

"Red stuff?" Mechelle asks, though she's not sure she /wants/ to know. "What's the red stuff for?" she hands the vial back to the journeyman and edges towards the door, ready to make an exit pretty soon. After all, chores await!

Elehu smiles, eyes twinkling lightly as she moves off to make a few notes from the physical, the vial left near the others waiting to be washed.

The smirk spreads to a twisted halfsmile as Reiko turns her eyes back to Mechelle. "The men. Feel free to ask one of them. I know I heard Tamber and Xaner complaining about being 'poked'." Cough. Turning back to Elehu with an insolent air, she adds, "I haven't killed anyone yet."

Mechelle's cheeks turn scarlet and, thoroughly embarassed at the thought she giggles, "Um..I better go..I really need to get chores done.." Yup, gotta do /something/ to get that thought out of her mind! She runs out the door, nearly bumping into the doorframe as she goes.

Elehu actually giggles this time and shakes her head. "Holdbred are so curious sometimes," she comments idly, taking a seat at her desk once more. She glances up at Reiko for a moment. "So what brings you here?" she asks quickly, voice still carrying a hint of amusement.

Reiko chuckles, low in her throat, as Mechelle turns shades of red she's never seen on a human face before, shaking her head slowly. At Elehu's comment, she smirks lightly. "Wrong turn," she says wryly, not bothering to remind the Healer that she's holdbred herself. "It's only been a few days, you know." And every day she misses that cot in the nice, quiet Healers' quarters just a little bit more. So once in a while her feet just... decide for her. She just hasn't been caught before.

Elehu leans back, nodding slowly. "Ah, I see. So you actually miss the place? Don't worry, I won't tell." She winks at the former assistant and picks up her pen again, but only idly looks over the few stacks scattered on her small desk. "Well... you can always feel free to come visit now and then."

Reiko arches an eyebrow. An invitation? To visit? Now how should she take /that/? She crosses the room to perch on a stool near Ele's desk, facing her. "It's a matter of degrees," she says lightly, fixing glittering eyes and a twisted halfsmile on the Healer. "Nothing like actual /privacy/... but certainly less crowded than the barracks." And let's not even /mention/ the dorms. "Besides..." She leans back on her hands idly and stretches her legs out in front of her, crossing them at the ankles. "It's not /that/ bad in here." At least Niall won't follow her here.

Elehu laughs softly and nods. "I can imagine. I've been a bit spoiled I think the past few Turns since I was promoted. I had to share a room with an apprentice when I was stationed on a ship, but other than that I've had a good deal of privacy. Which has its advantages surely." She yawns a bit and leans forward, hand resting on the the desk. "Hey, it can only get better from here, right?"

Reiko smirks. Yes. Privacy has its advantages. Emerald gaze slides over Elehu, appraisingly. Suggestively, even. Did someone ask about rules? Reiko was absent that day. "Better is good," she says softly, glancing at the door to the Healers' quarters.

Elehu follows Reiko's gaze for a moment, then blinks at the candidate. The look on her face wavers for a moment between interested and pensive, but in the end she just sets down her pen, biting her lower lip for a moment as she stands. "Yes... good. And I think I'll take advantage of that." One more pause before she gives a last definitive head shake. "For a nap that is. I'll be seeing you around, Reiko." She smiles softly and even raises a hand to wave before heading towards the healers' quarters, and at a rather brisk rate.

Elehu quietly walks to the Healers' Quarters.
