No more than a hideaway amidst the gothic grandeur of the StarHall, this cozy lounge is a place of laughter if not greatness, warmth if not splendour. The close stone walls are insulated with tapestries of all shapes and sizes, most a little worn, several faded and a good many depicting scenes from childhood stories. The mismatched chairs and sofas are in a similar state, rescued from cellars and rubbish-heaps but perhaps more softer and more comfortable for that, scattered in a rouch circle on a hardwood floor. A low round table in the centre of the room holds cards, discarded hides, mugs, and a pot that holds klah as long as someone remembers to fill it. The one window at the back wall lets light and air into the warm, cozy room.
Scattered troughout the rooms are numerous glowbaskets. Thin hides, that would be transparant if they weren't coloured in light shades of red green and blue cast a colourfull and happy athmostphere troughout the room. Small bells and sticks, hung near the window, create soft, eerie yet comfortablly soft sounds,
Cress scribbles a few notes on the scroll he's sitting with. Looking up he sees Linora come in. "Hi, Lin..." He tries to catch her eyes, to find out what kind of mood she's in.
Linora greets Cress with a smile. Not gonna worry now, nope. She flops in a comfy chair. "Hi. Still working on your project?" She tilts her head for a better look, sprawled kinda gracelessly on the chair.
Caelestis walks in from the Female Apprentice Quarters.
Cress smiles broadly at her seemingly good mood. "Yeah, I think I'm almost done," he says. "How 'bout you? What've you been doing?"
Linora grins. "Sleeping." Well, she went to bed right after she left the dining hall.
"Oh," is Cress' answer for that. "At least you have time to sleep," he says teasingly. "I've been too busy with this project." He suddenly hopes that that doesn't set her off worrying about things again.
Really, the rest has done Linora a lot of good. She actually giggles. "Well, I guess I better enjoy it while I can." She doesn't even notice his expression change.
Cress finds his smile again, and puts his paperwork aside. "You seem to be in a good mood today?" Which makes /him/ in a good mood, of course.
Linora nods earnestly. She'll figure it out. Really. She likes to see Cress smile. "So is it nice outside? Or were you in here working all day?"
Cress suddently realizes that he doesn't even know what time of day it is, and grins at that fact. "I've been pretty busy," he says, slightly embarrassed. "Wanna come outside?" He fairly jumps out of the chair, jolting the lizards on his shoulders awake. Angry chitters from both announce that they're very dissaticefied with being awakened.
Linora quickly covers her mouth to keep from laughing out loud at the poor flits, getting to her feet. "Sure," she says, her eyes twinkling. "Let's go."
Linora pauses and looks up at Cress. "Which way?" Doesn't matter to her.
Cress looks down at his stomach as it rumbles. Hoping Linora didn't hear it he shrugs, "I could use something to eat, actually," he says and grins.
Linora catches the look, but doesn't comment, instead grinning back at Cress. "Good idea." She's been asleep all day, after all, breakfast sounds good. She peeks up at the angle of the sun... okay, supper? She reaches for his hand, a little shyly, peeking up at him with shining eyes.
Cress smiles, looking her in the eye, while searching for her hand. Catching it he squeezes and gives her a wink of the eye.
Coming from the other rooms, the Dining Hall seems a little dimmer, Which it is. Positioned throughout the room are about a dozen tables suited for up to eight people each. It is far more than the Hall needs, but it is always nice to be safe than sorry. A table is set up off to the side. On it is a collection of cooled juices and fruits which are kept fresh from the nearby Orchards. With the constant state of furor created by recent events there few drudges not busy elsewhere, So please serve and clean up after yourself. A fire burns merrily along the west wall, and overstuffed, cushioned couches and chairs have been placed in front of it.
Cress is led in by Linora.
Cress glances at the chalkboard to see what the menu is for today.
Some of today's lunch is still left, it was: Baked tubers topped with cheese, sour cream, and chives. There's also: Toasted garlic bread crisps and artichoke-spinach dip, carrots, celery, and cucumbers with creamy dip, and the inevitable meatrolls.
Linora decides that baked tubers and cheese sounds really good, even if it's not very breakfast-like, and goes to help herself. She smiles over at Cress. "What are you gonna eat?"
Cress heaves some of the tubers onto his plate, pick out a couple of redfruits and pours his usual mug of klah. "Mmmm, this smells good," he says, taking a long sniff of the food he has on his plate. Carefully balancing his load, he manages to get it to a table without spelling anything.
Cress releases Idoru, who launches into the air.
Linora giggles as her question is abundantly answered. Her plate is only slightly less full, and /her/ mug has juice, when she joins Cress at the table.
Idoru suddenly disappears ::between::!
Cress looks up as his green suddenly decides it's time to leave. "I wonder where she goes? She's done that a lot lately," he says, a puzzled look on his face.
Linora looks up, chewing a mouthful of tubers, her eyes following the direction of Cress's gaze. She swallows and looks over at him. "Maybe she's going fishing?" That bite gets washed down with a /big/ sip of juice.
Cress chuckles and takes a sip of klah, before digging into the tubers. "I tell ya," he says, mouth still halffull of tuber, "we never had this kinda food on the road..."
Linora smiles over the rim of her mug as she sets it back on the table, her eyes a little distant as she tries to imagine living on the road. "What was it like? Traveling, I mean?"
Cress shrugs, "depends. At times it could be interesting, you know, seeing new places all the time. But it's hard to make friends 'cus you don't stay at any one place for longer than maybe a month or two." He takes another bite of the tubers, and waves his fork about, "And then there's Thread, of course...." He lets that comment run out, letting her imagination take care of the rest.
Linora's eyes get really big, like that part didn't occur to her. "Whaddaya do when Thread comes?" Actually shuddering at the thought of being out of doors in Threadfall...
Cress winces at the memory of running from Thread. "We hid in caves.. With all the animals, you know. We actually only got caught outside only once.... We usually kept to the mountains, where there're a lot of caves. But that one time a wheel had come off one of the wagons, and we were a long way from a cave when the Fall started..."
Linora can't seem to remember to close her mouth, her eyes wide. "What happened?" Just a whisper.
Cress grins at her expressing, reaches over and puts two fingers on her chin, pressing upward to close her mouth, "well, my Dad, has a bronze lizard, which he sent to get the dragons, and they came and flamed the Thread. It was amazing."
Linora's expression goes from surprise at having her mouth closed for her, to wonder at the rest of the story. She grins. "You got to see /dragons/ flaming /Thread/? Wow."
Cress nods, "yeah, but kinda scary too," he says and scoops the last bit of tuber into his mouth, washing it down with a sip of klah. As if his experience with the dragons was nothing.
Linora nods, remembering just how big dragons are close up. After a moment she remembers her juice and takes another sip. "So nobody got hurt?"
Cress shrugs, "well, one of the runners, managed to get a score, but none of the people were hurt," his eyes twinkle, and sends her a grin. "But I've never been as close to a dragon as the day we met the one in the Courtyard.."
Linora's eyes get big again. "Me neither.... well, not /before/ that." She gets a little twinkle in her eyes. Not so scary now that she's not in the middle of it.
Cress drains the last of his klah, then gives Linora a halfsmile, "that was good to get something to eat," he says. "I'd like to spend more time with you, trust me, but I need to get some sleep, and then work on my project."
Linora looks just a little sad. There just isn't enough time... "Sure," she says. "I'll walk you back?"
Cress' smile widens as she offers to walk him back. He stands, collecting their dinnerware, and puts it away in its appropriate place. He goes to the exit, then turns and waits for Linora.
Linora catches up to Cress at the doorway, already reaching for his hand, her face lit with a big smile.
Morghn, Etain, and Kezzra are here.
Cress moves slowly in from the Main Hall Balcony.
Linora is led in by Cress.
Linora drops Cress's hand and gives him a little push toward the dorms. "Go on, you said you were tired." A quick glance around the room.
"I guess I'll get a nap," Cress says to Linora, before discovering all the people here. "Err, hello?"
Morghn stalks to the Main Hall Balcony.
Etain walks with silent steps to the Main Hall Balcony.
Cress looks Linora in the eye one last time before backing toward the dorm. Amazingly he doesn't hit any furniture, and as he reaches the door, he wink at her and turns and enters the dorm.
